Cutter Pump

Designed for pumping drainage water or effluent in residential, commercial or industrial applications — grey water, septic effluent, soft solids, hard dirt and effluent with a lot of fibrous material. Stationary and rotating cutters in En24/OHNS/D2, hardened to 55–60 HRC, cut it down at the intake.

What it’s for

Cut at the Intake, Before It Can Wrap

Fibre is what stops a sewage pump: rags, wipes and stringy material that wrap the impeller or bridge the intake. The PC Series deals with it before it gets that far. A rotating cutter turns against a stationary cutter plate at the intake, both in tool steels hardened to 55–60 HRC, so fibrous material, soft solids and hard dirt are cut down as they enter — sharpened knife edges cut small, flexible solids before they ever reach the impeller.

Fifty-two catalogue models from 1 to 15 HP cover 32 to 150 mm discharges, on the same motor, seal and casing construction as Point’s other sewage pumps. Where the solids are large but not fibrous, the PS Series passes them whole; where the water carries only soft solids, the PDS drainage pump.

Applications

Where It’s Specified

Septic effluent

Septic tank and soak-pit effluent from homes, apartments and commercial buildings, with the rags and fibre it carries.

Grey water & drainage

Grey water and drainage in residential, commercial and industrial buildings where soft solids and hard dirt come with it.

Fibrous effluent

Effluent with a lot of fibrous material — the duty where an uncut impeller wraps and stops. See industries we serve →

Sump emptying

Emptying sumps of waste water with soft solids in suspension, hard dirt, rubber, resin or plastic — the cutter takes them down before they reach the impeller.

Treatment plant inlets

Lifting raw effluent into sewage and effluent treatment plants ahead of screening, with the fibre already cut down.

Compare

Cutter or Another Series?

The PC cuts fibrous and hard material. Where the solids are larger, need chopping or grinding, settle in the sump, or are only soft, another series fits better.

  • PC SeriesYou’re here

Stationary and rotating cutters hardened to 55–60 HRC for fibrous and hard material, 2–300 m³/hr to 45 m.

  • PG Series — Grinder

    Solid- and fibre-laden sewage at 2–300 m³/hr to 45 m head — particles up to 135 mm.

  • PCC Series — Chopper

Chops oversized solids and stringy material at 7–1000 m³/hr to 30 m head.

  • PCG Series — Chopper Grinder

Chopper cutter plus hardened screw rotor for oversized and stringy material, 7–1000 m³/hr to 30 m — the series for biogas feedstock.

  • PS Series — Sewage

Passes solids and fibre through a large discharge — 2–800 m³/hr to 45 m, particles up to 270 mm.

  • PDC Series — Drainage Cutter

Drainage water and effluent carrying fibres and rags — a cutting impeller and cutter plate, 1–10 HP, up to 150 m³/hr and 25 m.

  • PA Series — Agitator Slurry

Agitates settled solids back into suspension before transfer — 2–300 m³/hr to 45 m, particles up to 135 mm.

  • PDS Series — Drainage

Grey water, drainage and effluent with soft solids to 20 mm — 1–10 HP at 2880 rpm, up to 100 m³/hr and 30 m head.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the cutter work?

A rotating cutter on the pump shaft turns against a stationary cutter plate at the intake. Fibrous material, soft solids and hard dirt are cut as they pass between them, before they reach the impeller — so rags and stringy material can’t wrap it.

PC, PG or PS — which do we need?

Choose the PC where the effluent carries fibre — rags, wipes, stringy material — or hard dirt. The PG grinder pump handles the same solid- and fibre-laden sewage over the same range; the PS Series passes large solids whole, without cutting, at flows up to 800 m³/hr.

How do I read a PC model name?

Left to right: the discharge size in mm, the series, then the duty point — flow in m³/hr and head in metres — and the motor in HP. 100PC-80-20-10.0 is a 100 mm pump delivering about 80 m³/hr at 20 m head on a 10 HP motor.

What are the cutters made of?

Tool steels, hardened for the job: stationary cutters in En24, OHNS or D2 fully hardened to 55–60 HRC, and the rotating cutter in En36 with D2 inserts. Tell us what the effluent carries when you enquire, and we’ll specify the cutting assembly.
