PCG Series
Chopper Grinder Pump
Purpose-built to transfer solid particles and thick-mass particles — ideal for biogas processing of wet organic materials, and for transfer of sewage water containing up to 5% wet organic material. This is the series most directly relevant to biogas plant feedstock transfer.
- Flow
- 7 – 1000 m³/hr
- Max head
- 30 m
- Pipe size
- up to 300 mm
- Speed
- 960 / 1440 rpm
What it’s for
Built for What Blocks Other Pumps
Most pumps fail on organic feedstock for the same reason: stringy, fibrous and oversized material wraps or jams before it ever reaches the impeller. The PCG answers that at the intake — a chopper cutter reduces solids as they enter, and a hardened screw rotor moves the thick mass through rather than relying on clearance.
That makes it the series we specify for biogas feedstock transfer, where a blockage doesn’t just stop a pump — it interrupts feeding to the digester. It handles sewage water carrying up to 5% wet organic material on the same principle.
Construction
How It’s Built
Five components carry the duty. Materials are specified for the abrasion and stringing that organic feedstock puts through a pump, with graded steels available for special applications.

Applications
Where It’s Specified
Moving wet organic material through the pre-processing line and into digestion, where a blockage interrupts feeding to the digester rather than just stopping a pump.
Transfer of sewage water containing up to 5% wet organic material, at flows and heads that suit municipal and industrial transfer duties.
High-solids manure streams where stringy and fibrous material would wrap a conventional impeller. See industries we serve →
Macerated and crushed feedstock transfer downstream of macerators and food waste crushers.
Compare
Cutter, Grinder or Chopper?
Four series handle solids in sewage, and they’re easy to confuse. The difference is how the solids are reduced, and at what flow and head.
-
PCG SeriesYou’re here
Chopper cutter plus hardened screw rotor — oversized and stringy material at 7–1000 m³/hr to 30 m. The series for biogas feedstock.
-
PCC Series — Chopper
Chops oversized solids and stringy material at the same 7–1000 m³/hr and 30 m head, without the screw rotor stage.
-
PG Series — Grinder
Solid- and fibre-laden sewage at 2–300 m³/hr to 45 m head — higher head, lower flow, particles to 135 mm.
-
PC Series — Cutter
Stationary and rotating cutters hardened to 55–60 HRC for fibrous and hard material, 2–300 m³/hr to 45 m.
-
PA Series — Agitator Slurry
Agitates settled solids back into suspension before transfer — for slurry that has already dropped out.
Common questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the chopper grinder work?
It reduces the solids twice. At the intake, a first cutter chops fibrous material and turns the liquid into an even mixture; the screw rotor then carries the solids and thick mass into the pump housing, where a second cutter reduces the particles further. That’s what lets it move wet organic material that would wrap or jam an open impeller.
How is the PCG different from the PCC chopper?
Both handle oversized solids and stringy material across the same 7–1000 m³/hr flow and 30 m head range. The PCG adds a fully hardened screw rotor behind the chopper cutter, which is what suits it to thick-mass wet organic material rather than sewage solids alone.
How do I read a PCG model name?
Left to right: the discharge size in mm, the series, then the duty point — flow in m³/hr and head in metres — and the motor in HP. 200PCG-285-14-30 is a 200 mm pump delivering about 285 m³/hr at 14 m head on a 30 HP motor. Models from 4 to 30 HP run at 1440 rpm; the 960 rpm models, from 6 to 50 HP, take the larger flows at lower speed.
Can it be customized for corrosive applications?
Yes — impellers and casings are available in graded steels for special applications, and the cutting assembly is already specified in hardened tool steels and CF8 with carbide or HCHCr tips.
How do we service it without draining the sump?
Pair it with an auto-coupling system. The pump lifts out on guide rails with no flange bolting and no sump entry, and its own weight reseals the connection on the way back down.
